Sleep and Shoulders and Songs

When Clara was a baby, she always laid her little head down on my left shoulder, with the left side of her face resting on me, looking out at her room. She still does this, at almost 3 years old, when I sing to her for her nap and bed time.

Audrey also lays her little head down on my left shoulder. But she puts the right side of her face in the crook of my neck, snuggled right under my head, with her eyes closed. For the first few months after she was sleep trained, she would keep her head straight up, looking around the room, investigating the world. But at some point, she started to understand, oh, this is time to sleep. I remember the first time I started singing to her for her nap and she immediately laid her little head down, nestled into the space on my shoulder, breathing softly on my neck. My heart lept a little, because I remembered that feeling from Clara. The feeling of complete and utter trust... dependence... love (a baby's version love = you meet my needs).

Clara is really into Frozen right now. She was singing the song that Kristoff sings to Sven (which Clara used to pronounce (Si-ben). And at the end of the song, instead of singing "Don't let the frostbite, bite" she sang "Don't let the flashlight, ligghhttt."

These are some of the things I want to remember.
